Objections can be lodged by members of the public who are required to complete and hand in the prescribed form together with information they have to support their objection.
For the convenience of the public, two methods for lodging of objections are available:-
•by way of a physical submission at a
Sizakala Customer Centre, where the Objector will be provided with an Objection Form which will be pre-populated with certain of the property details. The Objector will be able to receive assistance from municipal staff.
•an Objection Form will also be able to be downloaded from the Valuation Roll search site in respect of the specific property being viewed. The download will pre-populate certain key property information to facilitate capture back into the system following submission.
An objection must be lodged against an entry in the valuation roll and not the valuation roll as a whole. Once an objection has been lodged, the matter is referred back to the Municipal Valuer, who will review the valuation in the light of all information provided by the objector. The objector will be informed in writing of the outcome of this review and will have a right to Appeal this decision.
Section 49 (6) and Section 54(4) of the Local Government: Municipal Property Rates Act 6 of 2004, states that the lodging of an Objection or an Appeal does not defer a persons liability for payment of rates beyond the date determined for payment.
