The eThekwini Municipality’s Water and Sanitation Unit is implementing measures to manage the increased water demand in the Northern region and surrounding areas. Due to the growing number of illegal connections and drastic increase of water demand during the day, the Municipality has decided to close down two reservoirs at night.
The community must take note that during the festive season there would be water cuts from 10PM till 4AM. This would be done to allow the reservoirs to accumulate enough water for consumption during the day.
These two reservoirs – Ntuzuma 5 and Ntuzuma 7 - cannot cope with the demand during the festive season. The Municipality urges the community to use water wisely and to make sure that all taps are closed.
Below are few tips on how to reduce water losses:
- Do not use water for the vegetable gardens
- Do not leave the tap running when brushing the teeth
- Use a shower instead of a bath
- Do not wash clothes at the stand pipe, collect your water in a bucket
- Do not allow the kids to play with water at the stand pipes, as the kids leave the taps running
- Report any kind of water abuse e.g. taxi drivers washing taxi’s at the stand pipes
- Report illegal connections
The following areas are affected:
- Ntuzuma A, B, C, F
- Lindelani C and D
